On Shortcuts: “Is it fast or is it efficient?”

We are lazy. This is the reason authors who wrote about procrastination, how to overcome it and what not, was able to gain profit, shared it to us (and hopefully practiced?). It may be in a form of a 200+ page book, a booklet or a listicle. Something that a lot of us want or even need.

That’s also the reason we love shortcuts. Either it’s something provided to us like CMD/CTRL+C and CMD/CTRL+V on our computers, or something we created for ourselves. Programmed or hacked, we all want it if it does the job faster.

One thing that I noticed though about shortcuts is that it isn’t always efficient. Specially if you look at it on a long-term basis. It may seem faster, but faster doesn’t always mean efficient. Doing things faster may affect the quality of what we are trying to do and accomplish.

So maybe the next time that you’ll be using or maybe creating a shortcut, ask yourself “Is it fast or is it efficient?”
