Well Yes. Actually, that could be worst. To say that you believe in God but is not reflecting on your actions.
Titus 1:16 (NIV)
16 They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.

For the point number 2, that's what they say they are. They are not believing in God because X happens, therefor there is no God. It maybe out of frustration but it was never my claim that they are atheists, they're the one who said they are.
I singled out atheism as an observation about them, but then again I mentioned that I'm not saying that all atheists are like that in my disclaimer.
